Narcissism

nar·cis·sism
  [nahr-suh-siz-em]

noun

1. Inordinate fascination with oneself; excessive self-love; vanity.Synonyms: self-centeredness, smugness, egocentrism.

NarcissusNarcissism: It’s a cornerstone of the Yahwehian religions that have the audacity to claim their god made man in his own image. That is in due course to assume their god has an equal number of hairs as a chimpanzee, albeit ours are finer so as to give the impression of nakedness. It is to assume their god has an appendix; great at one time when heavy leaves were a part of our diet but utterly useless and oftentimes quite dangerous now. It is to assume their god has a completely dysfunctional Jacobson’s Organ in his nose or the equally useless auriculares muscles in his ear. It is to assume their god has wisdom teeth rendered useless after the discovery of cooking. It is to assume their god has the now meaningless plantaris muscles in his feet, or the completely unusable remnant of a tail in the coccyx. It’s narcissism, pure and simple, to believe you are so perfect a representation of life that your form should be preserved forever. It’s narcissism to believe you’re so deeply wonderful that although you’ve lived your life moving from one near cataclysm to the next punctuated only by moments of brilliance and sometimes horrible failings that you should be gifted a perfect heavenly hearth after death just so you can live the life you always thought you could have had it not been for life itself getting in the bloody way.

So let’s cut to the chase. Self-indulgent love – the kind of introspective emotion and outward action inspired by naïve notions of a personal god – is regressive love, if you could even call it “love.” It’s a closed system circling only itself, and feeding only itself. There is no moral victory to be had in this orgy-of-one echo chamber.

Here, now pay careful attention, I’ll let you in on the tangible truth:

I LOVE YOU

  1. Well said indeed.

It takes a bit of audacity of your own to devote an entire blog to such a contentious topic. Kudos.

Unless the rest of what you have to say departs radically from what you’ve said here, you’ve found a new ally.

  2. Good post, as usual. For all many Christians try to claim that their god is equivalent to love, this god shows no such features that I, for example, see in my husband. It is portrayed as arrogant, quite stupid and mean. It fails even its own holy book’s definition of “love”.

      • As one of the men in Blue, an element of theistic admiration towards Tendulkar might seem warranted. Much as I admire the Man, I think it is time to move on. It is a touch saddening to see his goodwill being wiped away thanks to his lingering on for longer than anybody desires.

What do you think of him and the Order of Australia honour? Ruffled some feathers, given Hayden’s comment.

You guys probably feel the need for some reinforcements in the bowling department. Warney to return? 🙂

  3. I’ve been pretty much cricket free for the last 10 years. Brazil is not a place to hear the crack of leather on willow. I read the papers but to tell you the truth the Australian team has given me the shits since the mid 90’s, and please don’t get me started on Warne. A fan i am not. No Lillees, no Marsh’s, no Thompsons. Cricket needs characters. But yes, i must bend my pride and admit the Little Master was deserving of the title.
