Sketches on Atheism

      • JZ, I have been following your blog for a long time now, and just want to say how absolutely fantastic it is. Your meme’s are spot on showing the ridiculousness of this religious nonsense. The above meme is an excellent example. How can one seriously believe that this is a wonderful story? Reminds of the Dylan song, Highway 61. On my way to Atheism, this was one of the major steps. Being brought up Southern Baptist in Mississippi, this one story along with Noah’s Ark led me to sanity. If we had the internet back in the day, it would have been a quicker trip! Thanks again and keep up the great work.

  1. “Here we are in the 21st Century, and a large chunk of the world still worships the god of Abraham—a man supposedly commanded by God to kill his own son to prove his love for that god.

What must these religions do to the mind of believers to even allow them to describe the story of Abraham as beautiful?

Which of us would leave Abraham in charge of our children? Imagine how scripture and theology must pervert the pathways and processes of the human mind, and perhaps the very psyche of our species.”

~ Phil Hellenes Through These Godless Eyes

If Abe tried to pull this off today, he’d be convicted of attempted murder and either admitted to a high security mental institution or prison.

  2. One of the many (oh so many) “events” in the Bible that told me it is a bunch of sadistic crock and the dudes who wrote it are full of it, as is their deity. I was in third grade, IIRC. (Not that the grip of religion on my life automatically disappeared then — that took much longer.)

  3. I was in Sunday School class when this topic came up. We were studying Abraham and his act of faithfulness(it’s hard for me to believe that I once believed that, *sounds of vomiting*).

Several of us did chime in and say that today if someone said this and/or did this we’d say they were nuts and put them in a padded room. “And rightly so”, said the teacher. “God no longer speaks to us the way he spoke to Abraham.” That one got swept under the rug as she explained to us that Abraham believed that Yahweh would provide. Even had he sacrificed his only(Well, almost only. Obviously Ishmael didn’t count) son Yahweh could have raised him from the dead.

It was a test of faith. And a challenge was issued to us all as to whether we had such great faith. None of us did. Yahweh need not even hint. What an insane thought.

  4. If you take the bible as one of the pillars of European cultura and not as God’s word, you will find its beauty comparable to Shakespeare’s tragedies, also full of beauty expressed through extreme violence. Judging from the cultural creations are about violence, probably violence appeals even more to the humans than sex.

    • If you take the Bible as one of the pillars of European culture you will find its literature beauty comparable to Shakespeare’s tragedies, full of beauty due to its vicious cruelty. Take all the big Shakespeare playes like Macbeth, Hamlet, Othelo, or even Romeo and Juliet. They are full of evil and vicious violence. It seems humans are driven by some irresistible force towards the beauty of unlimitedly cruel violence, otherwise all those film genres based on violence could not exist. Probably this is why the Bible has become the most popular book in human history and not, some Yoga book, full of love and peaceful spirituality.

  5. Abraham’s Baby Sitting Service: Drop your kid off with ole Abe, and, if your lucky, Yahweh doesn’t tell him to cut out his heart with a carving knife. Lovely story, this. Those who tell it to children should be put on a list which bans them ever having contact with children again.

    • Sadly, very few. Colourstorm pops in from time to time to water the plants, Phadde drops by to show he’s still angry at everything, Insanity did a drive-by shooting a while ago, but it’s otherwise been quite barren. I made a new friend in Cindy over on Wally’s blog over the weekend, but she’s already threatening to ban me, so i doubt she’ll grace us. Pity.

      • As you may or may not have seen/known John, I tried my absolute hardest to carry on civil constructive dialogue with ColorStorm weeks ago — picked up a very polite ‘aquaintance’ (theancients) along the way who COULD talk with common courtesy — but it was literally like speaking with (or rather listening only) to a member of ISIS, Al-Qaeda, or Jewish Zionist. All similiar. In many cases identical, no differences. :/

(in his rhetorical voice again) — Why is it so SO difficult for these extremists to carry on a normal courteous conversation… even about other non-religious, non-theological subjects? 😮

If you recall, I have told you on numerous occasions that the body is perfectly designed.

Evolution has no claim there. You are arguing for intelligence thank you.

Societal shifts prove God’s word is true, while evolution boasts of meaningless answers.

Only the scriptures answer as to the bent of the heart, we have been through this a dozen times. My answers never change, while yours ‘adapts’ and are unstable as water.

Meet the Republican members of the Congressional “Science” Committee.

Todd Akin (R-MZ): “Pregnancy from rape is really rare. If it’s legitimate rape, the female body has ways to shut that whole thing down.”

Ralph Hall (R-TX): “We have some real challenges; we have the global warming or global freezing and then we have the space, the NASA program, that’s enough for any one committee.”

Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI): “I personally believe that the solar flares are more responsible for climate cycles than anything that human beings do.”

Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA): “Is there some thought being given to the clearing of rainforests so some countries can eliminate that source of greenhouse gases?”

Paul Broun (R-GA): “Scientists all over the world say that the idea of human induced global climate change is one of the greatest hoaxes perpetrated by the scientific community. It is a hoax. There is no scientific consensus.”

Sandy Adams (R-FL): “I am encouraging us to reduce funding for climate change research, which undercuts one of NASA’s primary and most important objectives of human spaceflight.”

Mo Brooks (R-AL): “We have higher levels of carbon dioxide. That means that plant life grows better. Does that mean I want more of it? I don’t know about the adverse effects of carbon dioxide on human beings.”

“All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell… And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior.”

      • Ugh. 😦 John, did you HAVE to mention Ralph Hall from my great proud state of Texas!? 😉

I could share with you so many stories, like this you’ve shown John, on a weekly basis. Just last week while waiting on my car’s oil-change (30-45 mins or so), I was surrounded by 2 men & 1 woman (in their 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s) customers, and 2 more women employed their behind the counter… all going on & on about God/Jesus, church, bible-studies, and the “miracles” the Almighty wrought from their elderly ailments. John, here it is to epidemic proportions! In fact, when I picked up a Voters Guide newspaper for all the many upcoming primary elections, care to guess what party 80% – 85% of the candidate portfolios were “represented”? :/

      • If you are referring to the already changed Texas demographic of Anglo-Saxon (Caucasin) to majority Hispanic, that happened in 2013. Unfortunately, that doesn’t represent voter turnout, voter ‘education’ and education level attained, or that registering to vote is easier or reflective of Texas demographics. This article is accurate:

        http://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/headlines/20130504-hispanics-now-largest-ethnic-group-in-texas-public-schools.ece

Besides, like W. Bush and his party executed in 2003…

…Texas Gerrymandering has been and is perfected, and can be again in order to keep the state Red for as long as possible. Just because Texas is now heavily Hispanic doesn’t mean some of those Hispanics won’t turn into Ted Cruz protégés. 😮

This is what we get when we undermine public education and try to make wiggle room for religious and other faith-based beliefs to be considered a ‘respectable’ alternative rather than what it is: reality-denying batshit craziness (no offense intended to the real crazies, of course).

Firstly, I asked if you, Roy, would kill your child if instructed to. Would you? Stephon Lindsay did. His faith is incredible, yes? In your mind, he should be celebrated, right? He did precisely what Yhwh instructed him to do. His faith is as great as Abraham’s.

“She’s in a bag,” Stephon Lindsay told police. “I just did what I was told to do.”

Lindsay told police he didn’t want to killed his 20-month-old daughter, but said “I only did what he (Yhwh) told me to do to her…”

        http://www.webmd.com/sexual-conditions/guide/circumcision.

What are the benefits of circumcision?

There is some evidence that circumcision has health benefits, including:

        1) A decreased risk of urinary tract infections.
        2) A reduced risk of some sexually transmitted diseases in men.
        3) Protection against penile cancer and a reduced risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners.
        4) Prevention of balanitis (inflammation of the glans) and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the glans and foreskin).
        5) Prevention of phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) and paraphimosis (the inability to return the foreskin to its original location).

Circumcision also makes it easier to keep the end of the penis clean.
        ***

Did I circumcise my son’s? No. Why not? I was not commanded to so.

God told Israel, “Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer.”

Apostle Paul teaches in Romans 2. “Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.” And later, “Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision? And will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the law, judge you who, even with your written code and circumcision, are a transgressor of the law?”

He is a creation of the apocalytic writers during the intertestamental period. The early Jews did not believe in the “satan” that “exists” in the Christian world today. He came “into being” after the Exile and is nothing but a figment of imagination.

What you claim, specifically, is false. It is a lie you read somewhere.

Even though Satan is first mentioned by name in Job, previous historical accounts record his actions (see Genesis 3, when Satan influenced the serpent, and Genesis 4 where Cain belonged to him (1 John 3:12).

You are a bit more crafty than John, not quoting Scripture, but lies show themselves out, eventually.

In the New Testament, other names reveal more about Satan’s current nature. Devil (diabolos) means “false accuser, Satan, slanderer” in Greek and is the word from which the English word diabolical is formed. Satan is called a dragon in Revelation 12:9 and 20:2, as well as the “evil one” in several places. Revelation 12:9 calls him “that ancient serpent” or “serpent of old,” and Matthew 4:3 calls him the “tempter.” Other names for Satan include Abaddon (destruction), Apollyon (destroyer, Revelation 9:11), Beelzebub or Beelzebul (Matthew 12:27) and Belial (2 Corinthians 6:15). Satan is also referred to as the god of this world/age (2 Corinthians 4:4), prince of this world (John 12:31), and father of lies (John 8:44).

The christian, Roy, what a blind fool you are to follow this infidel, Zande into Hell, BUT, Allah expects your stupidity and Hell awaits you for it. Allahu akbar

      • It is not genuine IBTD. Koran 5 was written 6-7 hundred years after the Bible version. The Koran is all about political control and control over pussy. We see it today. Islam is only about the political elite and control over it’s people and the peoples pussy. Mo wanted control and invented a perversion of what he already knew. He lived and grew up with Jews and knew their teachings and perverted them for his own gain, money and young pussy. Just like any corrupt society they take the ball and run with it making more laws to further cement their control.

I hope you like the feeling of your flesh burning from your bone for an eternity, for that is what your blaspheme has brought you. Read. Meditate, and learn from The One True God, Allah, or burn. It is your choice. All logic, all reason. all learning points to Islam as truth and christianity as a blasphemous lie. Learn or burn.

JZ, do you live in a dirt floor thatched roof hut in where-who Brazil? Wealth creation and debt-freedom should be desirable. When I retire at 60 I still need income, don’t you?

My advice…pay off all your debts ASAP. SAVE. And invest in securities that pay dividends. Dividend Kings, Dividend Champions, and US Municipal Bond Funds. Buy your retirement income.

The problem is, north of us are wankers.. and there’s quite a bit north of us. It’s much like America, I suppose; the prosperous irreligious north supporting the poor religious south.

Read this and learn, you ape: From The Koran: 5:73: “Surely, disbelievers are those who said: “Allâh is the third of the three (in a Trinity).” But there is no god but Allâh. And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall the disbelievers among them.” The Koran is the True Word of God. Roy is a blasphemous dog of a christian, a liar, an infidel. You, sir, are but a disbeliever. So, f**ckin’ believe, or burn. It’s your choice. Roy has already chosen fire, as most all christians do. Read the words of God from The Koran and tremble, you weak, ignorant fool of a christian. From The Koran: 5:14: “And from those who call themselves Christians, We took their covenant, but they have abandoned a good part of the Message that was sent to them. So We planted amongst them enmity and hatred till the Day of Resurrection, and Allâh will inform them of what they used to do.” The christian is a blind oaf who can not see reality though Allah has given him eyes. What, Roy, does Truth, the Truth of God’s word, have to do with dates? Your blaspheme is clear. Your denial of God is clear. Your punishment is clear. You, and your atheist friend, Zande, will burn together in Hell. You’re both blasphemous apes who’ve no idea of God. You’ve been warned. Be prepared. You blasphemous christian dog, you.

  7. Now you acknowledge your deception, i.e. word swap.

Abraham was lead by God for dozens upon dozens of years. They had a relationship and Abe knew God, TRUSTED God. This sacrifice request didn’t come on day-one of the relationship.

You cast your perversion out of context. ABRAHAM knew GOD, TRUSTED God.

      So, again, Yhwh says:

“Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

There is no “Pssst, hey, Abraham, I’m just kidding… Go along with it, it’ll be fun.”

The word in Scripture you so lovingly quote is sacrifice.

Abraham was lead by God for dozens upon dozens of years. They had a relationship and Abe knew God, TRUSTED God. This sacrifice request didn’t come on day-one of the relationship. God has never commanded anyone to kill their child.

        Does the story read:

“Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you…. and hey, Abraham, I know this all sounds really, really, really weird, you know, like completely insane, but don’t worry, just go along with it, I’m doing this as a joke, a gag, it’ll make you look FABULOUS!”

        Or does it read:

“Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

  8. I must also let Roy be clear of this truth from The Koran. It may save his blasphemous soul from eternal damnation. From The Koran: 3:85: “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islâm, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.”
Roy, to quote dates is to quote your own damnation. Read the Truth of God. Understand God. Or, Roy, continue to be a lying, blasphemous dog and burn in Hell for your arrogance as most christians do. It is vile and offensive that you do not see the Truth. God will damn you for it regardless of whether or not you believe it.

      • Actually, I would characterize his views more as an opinion, Leroy. That is half the problem though: he’s presenting it as a statement of fact. It certainly hasn’t been my experience that Judaism “seem[s] intent on suppressing all enjoyment of life and in imposing misery.”

As far as John’s support, being charitable and calling it a religious organization rather than a political one fueled by religion, it at best shows a certain sub-section of the “Abrahamic religions seem intent on suppressing all enjoyment of life and in imposing misery.” I doubt all Christians support those statements nor do most Jews.

Very strange, last time I do that.

To anyone else reading this, I welcome discussion on why you do or do not believe in the existence of “Satan.” Leroy has provided the link.

I never demeaned women Nan, another lie. I have my woman on a pedestal. I cherish her and will lay down my life for here. Her name is Cynthia Ann. It scares me to think she will die before me, I can’t live without her. She has been with me so long. I picture us together, swords and shields in hand, fighting…sweat and blood but yet victorious over the legions of evil, I love her so much. Just try me dear one.

I do not brag. I wish, so I wish, someone would have sat me down when I was young and stupid. I wish someone would have told me, Leroy, all you have to do is save $300 a month. Open a brokerage account at Fidelity and buy stock in these five Company’s, and Leroy, do this for 25 years and when you are 50 years old you will have one and a half millions dollars. Bragging about investments bull-shit. I say know how the rich get richer. Know how to make your money make money. Know wisdom. I give knowledge and I get nothing and want nothing from any of you. I do not want any comments at my blog, I do not have time for it. I’m here when I’m here and it is not consistent, but I’m drawn back, sent back, for a long time.

SATAN. Your request to discuss the existence of Satan is a sham. You don’t really know shit, just like all the rest of us.

Poor dude wants to talk about the stars, seems I mentioned I’m an Aries. You know, the Ram. We seem to force our way through life. We are very confident, stubborn, and live our lives precariously balanced on the edge. Aries do not take shit from anyone, did I mention we ooze confidence.

The Nan posted a comment, then banned me, “doesn’t your holy book consider it a sin to consult the stars?”

I’m an Aries, God Created the Stars, who the shit has all the answers? Very strange people. So anyway, poor dude states, “the stars occurred naturally as over millions of years, hydrogen gas collected as a consequence of gravitational attraction, until the very size of the mass, combined with the compression, caused the ball of gas to heat sufficiently to ignite the hydrogen, and a star was born.”

I just had to copy this here, certain it will not be deleted. Little dude, copy and past this URL to a word dock so you can come back in 10 years and laugh with me. x1NoName I see you as Little Dude. I have no idea at all about you, I have been given a impression of you as a Little Dude, it is enduring, my dude, my love. We can talk here but I’m banned at Nan’s, any post I try to make does not show up.

She takes exception to my point of view, instead of deleting my reply why not just scrap the whole thing. Why not just wipe the whole post from existence.

I can go back here to 2013 and read the 1.3 Second Fart post, John’s post, my post, my Christos post. It’s here in all it’s glory to live forever.

At Nan’s Place there is censorship and deletion.

It’s amazing how Christians consistently change the subject when they’re pinned down. But I guess it’s understandable. Since all they have is their bi-bull, they’ve lost the ability to think for themselves and must revert to quoting scripture (or hurling insults).

And Leroy, in case you think this comment is directed at you, don’t flatter yourself. You are just one of many who fit the description.

John, please answer another. Can someone say she use to believe in God and now
does not. Can someone say their life was transformer by the shed blood of Christ and then later change their mind? Seems kind of fake to me…

Reply or not, just had to get this out of my heart…………

“As far has your exception to Satan…I would imagine most Atheist hate the idea of Hell, damnation, separation, pain eternal, or the more desirable fate of all these – incinerated into non-existence . It is unpleasant to contemplate any of this. I don’t like it.

Looking at he Bible as a whole Literary Masterpiece the story must start from the first word in the OT and end with the last word in the NT.

Theologians often talk about “progressive revelation” regarding the unfolding of all truth in scripture. Those living during OT times didn’t know exactly how God was going to provide salvation for his people through the sacrifice of His Son. Sure there were prophesies about Jesus, but the Jews had no idea what He really was all about. They did understand the concept of blood sacrifice, covenants, and the need for atonement. Those living under the law had small glimpses of Satan’s work, but it took the added information of revelation in the NT to give a more complete picture. As time goes forward revelation gives us a clearer concept of a fallen angel who leads a rebellion against God’s reign and works to disrupt the work of the church.

The NT compliments the OT in this regard. Jesus’ teachings, the Apostles teachings, and Revelations gives us a clearer picture of the OT Deceiver.”

What is interesting Leroy is that to me this perfectly describes most fundamentalist Christian blogs. I suppose bias really is in the eye of the beholder.

Having suffered banning, moderation and editing of comments by Christian blogs I suggest that the atheist and Christian community are closer in behaviour than either likes to admit.

If this doesn’t give you a little chuckle you might be dead…

A Sunday school teacher asked the children just before she dismissed them to go to church,

      • Hi Leroy as a person who spent many decades in church I appreciate a bit of Church humour. This is one that could applied to my preaching (as I had been an ordained pastor):

A boy was watching his father, a pastor, write a sermon.
“How do you know what to say?” he asked.
        “Why, God tells me.”
“Oh, then why do you keep crossing things out?”

  11. Another joke for Leroy:

A young minister who had not spoken in public yet was asked to speak at a wedding reception. He decided to ask an older minister for some advice. The older minister said, “Pick a central thought for your talk and elaborate on that. If you find that you are loosing their attention then shock them with the following statement”. “Some of the happiest years of my life were spent in the arms of another mans wife. Once you have their attention say, “Yes…those were the years I spent in my mothers arms”.

The young minister thanked the older minister and went away to prepare his talk.

The evening of the wedding reception came and he was about 10 minutes into his talk when he noticed that he was loosing people’s attention. He stood up tall and said “I have a confession to make. Some of the happiest years of my life were spent in the arms of another man’s wife. Well this worked quite well as every eye in the entire hall was glued on him as they waited for him to continue. After a long awkward silence and becoming quite red, the young minister continued “but I forget who she was”.
